I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. – John 14:27 NLT
During the time in my life when I was being hard on Christians, I was not happy. So when I heard a preacher preaching about Jesus on campus, I went up and asked him a question. What I didn’t know was that the guy standing next to me was on campus on an outreach team during his spring break. He turned to me and asked, “Hey, what do you think about Jesus?” I replied that I thought He was a good guy. Then he asked, “Would you follow Him if He were here?” “Well, I don’t know. I would certainly listen to Him.” Then he asked, “Do you think He’s coming back?” “Coming back?” I had no idea.
Then this young man asked, “Do you want to know who Jesus was, and what He did, and why He came?” I did actually, so we talked for about an hour, and this guy went through a little blue booklet with me. I learned that God was the Creator, and that the wrong things I had done had separated me from Him, but that Jesus had come so that I could receive forgiveness and be reunited with God and have life and peace. I liked how he talked to me. He was genuine. He didn’t push it on me. He just said it was a gift I could receive. At the end of that time I wanted God. I thought that if this Jesus guy was that good, I wanted that.
I decided to believe in Jesus and something started to happen in me. Nothing happened on the spot, but over the next few weeks I noticed something changing in me. I felt a peace not deriving from myself. It did not come from my efforts, from emptying myself, but from a power outside myself. This is a peace Christians around the world share.
