Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation! Selah. – Psalm 68:19
Years ago as America was digging out of the depression, President Roosevelt naively imposed strict wage and price controls that handcuffed employers from bidding higher salaries for potential workers. As a result companies came up with other ways to attract employees. That is how employer-provided health insurance and other benefits came into existence.
Psalm 68:19 often comes to mind when I think of benefits. Here are some of the benefits of living in the fear of the LORD.
We’ll have a longer life (on average). You know how doctors say that for every cigarette smoked, a person loses a minute of life? This is the opposite! “The fear of the LORD prolongs days” (Proverbs 10:27 NKJV). “For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you” (Proverbs 9:11). We’ll tend to sin less. Not be sinless, but sin less. We’ll click past bad movies and steer clear of unhealthy web sites. We’ll treat our spouses kindly: “by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil” (Proverbs 16:6 NKJV). We’ll grow to actually hate sin. “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil” (Proverbs 8:13). We’ll have confidence and protection. “In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge” (Proverbs 14:26 NKJV). Our children will receive blessing. “The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him” (Proverbs 20:7 NKJV). We’ll receive true riches, honor and life. “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life” (Proverbs 22:4 NKJV ).
And there are many more benefits of walking with God who daily loads us with benefits!
