How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! – 1 John 3:1 NIV
No one is in heaven because of what they have done; they are there because of what God has done for them. Only God can get us to God.
The gospel, rightly understood, does not create people who are judgmental, but humble. Not divisive, but reconciling. Not rejecting, but accepting.
Our leader died for his enemies—He didn’t kill them.
The gospel is how we can hold to the truth and not become religiously divisive people. The answer is not less of Jesus, but more. Jesus came to reconcile us to God that we might become Jesus-like people.
If Jesus is who He said He was, and if He did for us what the Bible said He did, doesn’t He deserve our fullest devotion? If He is God, His words matter more than any others in human history. His words are the words of life. His words are the words that define reality: money, sexuality, eternity. If He is God, we should revere Him and make Him the Leader and Lord of our lives in every area.
How do I share this message in today’s culture? Think BLESS. B is for Begin with praying for others, the work of the Holy Spirit. L is for Love—be ready like Jesus to lay your life down for others. E is for Eat! Go and eat with people, and be ready to listen and empathize with their situations. S is for Serve. Let the truth be seen in your serving. And S is for Share. Share your story and share stories about Jesus. Let people discover who Jesus is!
