Peace of Mind - 2

Posted by Spencer Bernard on

But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.  – 1 Corinthians 15:57 NLT

Besides gaining the approval of God, the peace of mind Jesus gives us is rooted in three other truths.

We have victory over death. What happens when we die? This is the biggest question life offers. Some agonize, others try to ignore, yet it’s always out there. Most people try to reconcile their hearts with not knowing and live with a constant low-level worry about that day. With Jesus, we have the promise of eternal life with Him.

Our sin is forgiven, our guilt is gone.  “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins” (Ephesians 1:7 NLT). Who doesn’t have regrets? Who doesn’t wish they could do parts of their life over? Those gnawing feelings of regret and guilt destroy our peace of mind. Many times there’s nothing we can do to change old wounds we’ve caused. With forgiveness through Christ, the sin is gone. You’re forgiven. No matter what you’ve done, the blood of Jesus washes you clean.

The Holy Spirit is in us.  “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you” (John 14:26 NLT). One of the reasons we become anxious is because we forget truth. The Holy Spirit in us is a great reminder. How many times have you had a verse come to mind at the perfect time? Maybe a verse you haven’t thought of in years, but suddenly need? That’s the work of the Holy Spirit.

What’s all this add up to? When we “dwell richly in the message of Christ,” we’ll experience peace of mind and heart. We can relax. Be calmed. What a sweet gift from our Savior!
