God’s Lunchbox Note

Posted by Dawn Bovenmyer on

The secret [or, intimacy] of the Lord is for those who fear him . . . . - Psalm 25:14

It all started through a washing mishap with a sudsy crockpot. A slip from my hands and the rim of the crock was broken beyond repair. Thinking I might be able to save a few bucks, I stopped by the local Salvation Army store the next day to see if there might be a cheap replacement for my retired pot. Sure enough, I found not one but two crockpots to choose from! Thank you, Lord!

In the process of perusing the shelves for crockpots, my eyes landed on something else: a computer printer. At first it didn’t register, and then the thought came, “Buy it for Edge!”

Edge is short for Edge Venture, a Christian men’s retreat that my husband regularly staffs twice a year. Since the first Iowa Edge to the present, Dave has hauled our personal printer to the weekend event. Much as I have been happy to share, it has caused some inconvenience on my end, and I will also admit, a slight concern of our well-used printer returning home broken!

Now I was looking over a printer priced right: $11 to be exact! Was it worth the gamble? God’s nudge told me “Yes!” Purchasing the crockpot and the printer, I headed home. To my delight (and Dave’s) I found that the printer worked perfectly and, in addition, even had a decent supply of ink.

A printer was not on my list that day, but it was on God’s! He knew the need and my “secret” desire for an Edge printer, certainly not a necessity, but a special treat from God. A friend of mine would call this “God’s lunchbox note” . . . just a little reminder that He’s thinking about me!
