Weak Knees-1 - Tuesday June 12, 2012
Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. Hebrews 12:12-13 NIV
It wasn't what I expected to hear. I was sitting in the doctor's office, studying x-rays of my knees. My exam for knee pain and swelling concluded with these words by my doctor: "physical therapy." I started "P.T." the following week. Aside from the grinding and popping in my knee joints, there were other issues. My right foot was locked up (yes, there was that break a few years back), and my left foot had other problems. Add to that hips out of alignment and tight, weak muscles throughout, and it was a wonder I could hobble around as well as I did!

My trainer reassured me that he would have me back in shape in no time. Although I joke about falling apart in my "old age," I think my therapist would suggest my problem started with alignment. Perhaps that broken foot promoted stiff muscles and consequently weakness in my right leg that in turn stressed my left leg and altered my entire gait. Whatever the cause, I needed some adjusting and strengthening to correct my hampered walk.

Sometimes we can get out of alignment spiritually through either disobedience to God or taking hits to our soul through painful experiences that foster doubt or distrust. Whatever the cause, our muscles of faith get weakened, and a resulting spiritual "limp" can occur.

We need to go to our "trainer" Jesus for assessment, then follow through with what He prescribes. Whether through repentance, or receiving fresh godly perspective and comfort, His goal is always strengthening and healing.
