Just Do It - Saturday October 15, 2011
The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage ...Proverbs 21:5
I had noticed them for a number of days-all right, weeks-but I just hadn't taken the time to get outside and pull the weeds out of our large flower bed. It wasn't until a few days before our vacation that I knew I had to attack the problem, or I would have an even bigger problem when we returned home.
As I weeded, questions popped into my mind-"How could these weeds grow and multiply so quickly?" and "Whose idea was it to have this large a flower bed?" As I pondered, I knew that I had been cheering for this bed from the start. I envisioned a beautiful, easy-to-care for garden that would just maintain itself. Obviously, that was unrealistic thinking. If I was to have flowers, I needed to plan to weed!
"Plan" is an interesting word. It set me thinking. If I planned a time to weed, maybe once a week (gasp!), the weed population might not get so out of control. I might have more of the right kind of flowers and enjoy my garden the way I intended.
I wondered if that could be true of a lot of things in my life. Good relationships, a well-maintained home, consistent times of prayer, memorizing Scripture ... could all of these good things that I wanted in my life become more of a reality if I planned better?
As my husband has often said, if you don't implement a plan, it probably won't happen.
Lord, you know my tendency to procrastinate. Help me plan, and then help me to Just Do It!
